About Manasquan
Manasquan was first settled as part of Shrewsbury in the late 1600’s. It takes its name “Man-A-Squaw-Han” (stream of the island of Squaws) from the Lenni Lenape Indians who were summer visitors to the area for hundreds of years. Incorporated as a borough on December 30, 1887 by the New Jersey Legislature, Manasquan was formed from portions of Wall Township.
Today, Manasquan is a town of just under 6,000 residents who enjoy both the benefits of modern life and the simplicity of an earlier era. Occupying an area of just 2.5 sq. miles, all of Manasquan's amenities are easily within reach of residents and visitors without the necessity of a car. Manasquan's proximity to a number of popular Jersey Shore beaches causes its population to swell dramatically during the summer months. With numerous summer rental accommodations, nearby hotels, motels, and bed & breakfast inns, visitors are sure to find just the right place to stay while enjoying a Manasquan getaway. |
